Biography
 |
| After
owning and selling "Glass Concepts I and
II" in Arkansas, I chose the name "Weeping Willow" for my new
studio in Kentucky. Why Weeping Willow? In 1914 Grandfather Tobias Frey used
his initials and created and registered the western brand "Bar Quarter Circle/Quarter
Circle" for his Wyoming livestock. Grandma Nellie Shaunessy Frey thought the
name too lengthy, and unofficially renamed the brand Weeping Willow, which has stayed in
our family for nearly 100 years. For the last 16 years, I have been a Stained Glass Artisan designing and
building installations for my clients. Several years ago I discovered a new passion,
namely painting. I work in both oil and acrylic, but prefer oil because I think it evokes
more emotion in my subject matter. Most of my paintings are landscapes, although I have
begun venturing into abstracts and figurative compositions. The majority of my paintings
are started with applying a cold wax medium used to cut in shapes with a palette knife.
This begins as my under painting that leads to the texture for most of my finished pieces.
This past year I have addressed my paintings while thinking about
the emotional turmoil in world, local, and personal events; usually however, my palette
knife tends to lead me back to landscape scenes from my home in Wyoming. The signature I
use on my paintings is simply "Nett," my childhood nickname.
